It's off to a great weekend of re-writing and creating stories to meet the Monday deadline. I enjoyed a great trip the Arizona Republic, where I had the opportunity to view newsroom desks that now serve as inspiration of the upcoming mess in my hotel room this weekend, when I begin some major writing activities.
The Arizona Republic staff are phenominal, and the facitility is great. Thank you for such a great tour and for the opportunity to listen in and pick the brains of excellent news reporters and editors.
I especially enjoyed the "five stages of a story" presentation by Michael Roberts. The presentation was extremely helpful for me, as a "budding" journalism instructor. I really enjoyed his practical tactics, and clear instruction.
I wasn't too excited about beginning a Friday with grammar and AP stylebook lessons- but Steve is great at making something that can be very dull, fun and instructive.
Today was another great day, and I look forward to some R&R, and another great week!

It's so funny, I loved the AP and grammar session. I guess that is why there are diferent people with different skills in the newsroom. The same goes with our students-find their strengths and use them.

I was also noticing this weekend how my hotel room had transformed from the ordered room I had all last week to the mess that I woke up to this morning. I often find that as I get busier (and in turn a little more stressed) my work space begins to get a ltitle more cluttered.
ReplyDeleteMy students often remark that they know when deadline is approaching in our newsroom because the room gets much more cluttered. It was nice to see that they newsroom at The Arizona Republic operates in the same way.
