Don't do it, Frank!

I couldn't catch the gun-to-Tracy's-head shot, so this is the best I could come up with, and no, Frank is not about to shoot himself up the nose. What he was doing was laying out some of the best information on First Amendment rights and copyright law I've ever heard -- even from my media law class back in the day. So, even though I actually remember the SCOTUS decision that allowed black armbands (I started on the Venice H.S. paper that year) and got that part of the law down pat years ago, the Hazelwood decision was fuzzy until Frank explained it today. Now I get it! And feel that much more prepared to take on the responsibility of helping my students learn good journalistic practices. Fabulous presentation.

Allen's pub lab only makes me drool and wish for a dedicated space when I take over next year. No whining, Leslie -- cope with what you have and take Allen's advice to make the kids feel like professionals. Thanks for the encouragement and ideas, Allen.

Finally, I couldn't resist the sunset reflecting on the office building, partly because I love sunsets and vistas, both of which are plentiful here, but also because after today I was SO happy to get back to my room for a bit of well-deserved downtime.

Cheers!

  1. I wish I could have gotten a pic of Frank acting out that scene as well. It made such a powerful point. I can't tell you how many times I felt that this year. I was almost ready to file an official grievance against my principal, but thankfully he got fired, in large part (I think) because of how my students were treating the principal in their editorials.

  2. Nate, all I can do is echo what has already been said at this institute about the hassles you're dealing with. You are doing noble work. Seriously.
